TAIZE PRAYER First Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., starting September 4. This is a contemplative prayer service, grounded in silence and simple chant, inspired by the practices of the ecumenical community of Taize in France. Formed in the devastation of World War II, Taize is dedicated to fostering peace and reconciliation throughout the whole human family. We, too, welcome all to join in this prayer for healing, wholeness and peace--in ourselves, our community, our world.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN This fall the Presbyterian Women are discussing Marcus Borg’s book Convictions. How I Learned What Matters Most. The book is described as "A Manifesto for Progressive Christians.” If you need a copy of the book, contact Rie Wilson via riewilson@me.com. Our first meeting this fall is September 5, 10 a.m., in the Fellowship Hall. All women of the church are welcome.

SPC PICNIC The whole congregation together in one place at one time. Sunday, September 8, 5:00 p.m., Morgan’s Grove Park. Bring a dish to serve 12. Assignments per last name A-H: veggie or salad; I-P: dessert; Q-Z: side dish. Chicken, beverages, plates and flatware are provided. Volunteers needed to set up at 4:30 p.m. and clean up after. EXPLORING SPIRITUAL PRACTICES. First Fall Meeting for ESP will be Wednesday, September 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the SPC library. This is an open group, which meets every third Wednesday of the month, and no experience is necessary. All are welcome. The theme for this fall kickoff will be "Meditation through Sounds". A variety of meditations will be explored and practiced, including a "Mind Like Sky" meditation which will feature the sound of bells. SPC MONTHLY HYMN SING reconvenes September 29, the last Sunday of September, from 4:30-5:30 upstairs in the choir room. We sing the best lyrics and tunes in the hymnal, take requests, and sometimes Terry adds song sheets to the mix for goodies that have escaped our hymnal. There's no need to read music; you just need to breathe and be there. All are welcome; tell your friends. This is open to the community. BECOME A COLD WEATHER SHELTER VOLUNTEER. Jefferson County Community Ministries will hold a tutorial for anyone interested in more information about becoming a cold weather shelter volunteer on August 21, 7-8 p.m. It will be conducted at JCCM by Jan Jordan, Shelter Manager and Director, 238 West Washington Street, Charles Town, WV 25414.
